GINGER-TURMERIC IMMUNITY SIPPER

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 small orange, peeled
  • 2 small lemons, juiced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh turmeric, peeled
  • 1/4 cup fresh ginger, peeled
  • 1/8 tsp fresh black peppercorns
  • 1 TB bioactive or raw honey  – I love my Sunpotion bioactive honey because a little bit goes a long way and it is of the highest quality. I only use it for these types of recipes and not with cooking when I use a nice Manduka raw honey
  • Optional: hemp oil or avocado oil; which is said to increase the turmeric absorption in the body
    • I buy Thrive algae oil – the ultimate oil for heart health thanks to monounsaturated fat. In fact, just 1 TB gives you the same amount of monounsaturated fat as one whole avocado.

TOOLS I LOVE TO HELP PREP THIS:

TO MAKE:

Add turmeric and ginger to a blender, then add in the juice from the orange and lemons. Blend on high for 30 seconds. Add in the honey + pulse.

To be enjoyed immediately topped with fresh black pepper from peppercorns + an optional dash of oil (like hemp or avocado oil) said to improve turmeric absorption.

HEALTH BENEFITS OF INGREDIENTS:

TURMERIC

Curcumin is the active compound that makes turmeric so potent but what also gives it that bright yellow hue. Turmeric has super strong anti-inflammatory properties as well as a high level of antioxidant activity which help to strengthen the immune system and may help fight off infections thanks to its antibacterial properties.

GINGER

It is a relative of turmeric that has been touted for centuries as a home remedy for the cold + flu as well as aid in digestion to treat nausea. Ginger is chock full of antioxidants and has powerful anti-inflammatory effects on the body that support the immune system. Much like turmeric, it also has antibacterial and antiviral affects and has been shown to stop the growth of microbes.

BLACK PEPPER

The black pepper is added as piperine; an active compound in black pepper that can improve the bioavailability of cur cumin from turmeric by 2000%

LEMON

Loaded with vitamin C, which boosts that immune system right up!

HONEY

Raw or bioactive has antioxidants, amino acids, and also antibacterial properties. See the two brands I like to the left!
